Harper Woods shooting forces schools into lockdown, woman hospitalized

HARPER WOODS, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - Harper Woods police are investigating after a woman was shot inside her vehicle Thursday morning in the area of Woodland and Kelly.

Officers responded around 8 a.m. Thursday to a shooting in the 18900 block of Woodcrest. When officers arrived, they determined a location where the suspect could be located and worked with the Eastern Wayne Special Response Team, who entered a home but did not locate the suspect.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.

Police say they believe there is a personal connection between the suspect and the victim and that the shooting was not a random act.

All Haper Woods schools were on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown lifted around 12:10 p.m. Police say the incident is not school-related.

The public was asked to avoid the Kelly/Woodcrest/Lansdowne area.
