Grand Rapids Moves Forward With Bias Training For Police
GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- The city of Grand Rapids will move forward with bias training for police officers in a goal set more than a year ago as part of a plan to improve police-community relations.
The Grand Rapids City Commission will be asked next week to hire Lamberth Consulting of Philadelphia for $46,500 to conduct the training. The Grand Rapids Press reports police command staff, officers and civilian employees will participate in the training meant to foster unbiased law enforcement.
Patti Caudill, director of the city's diversity and inclusion office, says the training will have employees look at where they might have unconscious biases and give them tools to address their potential biases.
