Girlfriend, Boyfriend Charged In Crash That Killed 4 People On I-94
DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities have charged a Detroit woman and her boyfriend whose argument apparently prompted an alcohol-fueled, high-speed chase and crash on I-94 that killed four people last year.
JeQuis Tina-Dominique Mayes, 24, and Erroll Ramone Milliner, 28, were arraigned Friday on several charges, including multiple counts of second-degree murder, manslaughter with a motor vehicle, and operating while impaired causing death. Milliner was also charged with driving with license suspended causing death.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 2:40 a.m. on September 22, 2013 on Hurlbut Street and the I-94 service drive on the city's east side.
According to prosecutors, Mayes was driving with three women when she and Milliner had a verbal argument. Mayes fled the scene in her car and Milliner pursued closely behind, both allegedly driving at high rates of speed.
Prosecutors say Mayes failed to stop at a stop sign and continued through the intersection, crashing through a fence. Her car then went airborne, landing on top of a pickup truck that was traveling eastbound on I-94 with a man and two women. Milliner also failed to stop at the stop sign and ran off the road, disabling his vehicle.
All of the passengers in the pickup truck, who were returning from a wedding on Belle Isle, were killed. They were identified as 52-year-old Angie Battle of Detroit, 66-year-old Rosie Glenn of Las Vegas and 71-year-old Jimmie Barnett of Farmington.
All of the passengers in Mayes car were taken to a local hospital for treatment, where 20-year-old Dkeya Hodges of Eastpointe died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Mayes and Milliner were apprehended by Detroit Police on Thursday. They have both requested court-appointed lawyers.
