Garage Bands To Blowout, It's All About Music This Week
DETROIT (WWJ) - Music lovers -this is your week! The start of the 17th annual Metro Times Blowout begins Wednesday evening.
Organizer Jim Cohen says Blowout started out with garage rock bands.
"We still have a lot of that, but you know, certainly we've grown into all sorts of music will be playing Blowout. We have dj's, we have hip hop. We have Americana, which has become huge in Detroit," said Cohen.
Some of the bands performing over the four nights of Blowout include: Death, Electric Six, the Detroit Cobras, and Local-H.
Cohen says Blowout has featured musicians in the past that have broken onto the national scene including: Eminem and the White Stripes.
"Everywhere from nationally known Detroit based talent like Death, which has been the subject of a internationally acclaimed documentary going around the last couple of years, Electric 6, the Detroit Cobras , national acts like Motor City Soundtrack and Local H."
A $25 wristband will get you into every event over the four nights of the Blowout or you can pay $5 at the door, $8 per couple.
This year's venues include: Paycheck's, Smalls, New Dodge Lounge, Painted Lady, Whiskey in the Jar, Kelly's, Celina's Sports Bar, Loving Touch, WAB, Rust Belt Market, Como's, New Way Bar, Found Sound, Ferndale Public Library, Magic Stick, Magic Stick Lounge, Old Miami, Union Street and Northern Lights Lounge.
