Fulmer Named Finalist For A.L Rookie Of The Year Award

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) -- Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer has been named one of three finalists for the American League's Rookie of the Year Award.

Joining Fulmer are Cleveland Indians outfielder Tyler Naquin and New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez. Fulmer was pulled into the big leagues in late April after an injury to Shane Greene left the Tigers in need of a fifth starter.

His first month with the team was average at best, as he posted a 4.03 ERA in May. But from June 1 on, the 23-year-old was elite -- posting a 2.81 ERA and a .219 batting average against.

Naquin, 25, batted .296 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs this season filling in for injured star Michael Brantley in center field. Sanchez lit the baseball world on fire in August and September, hitting .299 with 20 home runs in just 52 games.

The winner of the award will be crowned on November 14 at 6 p.m. on MLB Network.
