Flooding Shuts Down Metro Detroit Freeways

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Tuesday morning commute is off to a wet and very slow start.

Heavy rains overnight brought flooding to metro Detroit, forcing the closure of some freeways and local roads.

A Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday. Forecasters say some areas received up to three inches of rain.

In Detroit, flooding has closed westbound I-94 at the Lodge, northbound I-75 at Grand River Avenue, and northbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway) between Jefferson and Congress.

Downriver, flooding has closed northbound I-75 between Fort Street and Oakwood Boulevard. The Southfield Freeway is also closed between Michigan Avenue and Ford Road.

Eastbound I-696 is closed between Groesbeck and Gratiot. I-94 is shut down in both directions between I-696 and 12 Mile. Westbound I-94 has all lanes closed at 12 Mile due to water over the roadway.

Flooding was also reported on Dix Road under I-75, as well as on Southfield Road under I-75, both in Lincoln Park.
