Fire Rips Through Montessori Child Care Center In Northville
NORTHVILLE (WWJ) - Investigators are trying to determine what set off a large fire at a child care center in Northville.
The fire was reported around 6 a.m. Tuesday at the Northville Montessori Center on Haggerty Road just north of 5 Mile Road.
Fire Chief Rich Marinucci said it's possible the fire could have been going on for quite some time before his department got the call.
"It probably was, just because of the size of it. It takes a while to develop that much fire," Marinucci told WWJ's Ron Dewey. "But because of the time of day, there's not a lot of traffic so there's nobody driving by to see it until it breaks through and people can see the flames and call it in."
The building's roof has collapsed and the interior is completely gutted. The building appears to be a total loss.
No injuries were reported.
A cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters from Plymouth Township and Livonia assisted crews from Northville at the scene.
