Crews Subdue Fire At Roseville Mediterranean Restaurant 'Malek Al Kabob'

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) -- Fire crews from all over the area worked to put out a fire at a popular Mediterranean restaurant on Sunday afternoon in Roseville.

Jim Sage used to own the building and he explains that it happened while the roof was being re-tarred.

"He was working on one corner, they stopped, they went over to the other side working on some drains and the corner of it caught on fire and they couldn't stop it, they couldn't control it," Sage said. "The whole building is a total loss right now."

The blaze started at Malek Al Kabob on Gratiot Ave. just north of 13 Mile across from the Macomb Mall. The fire had traffic jammed in both directions on 13 Mile and Masonic.

Sage said that he sold the building to Malek Al Kabob after it was originally a different restaurant and that their insurance will cover most of the damages.

No one was hurt, but the building is a total loss and is being torn down.
