Fire Burns Vehicles At University Of Michigan Parking Structure
ANN ARBOR (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a fire at a parking structure for the University of Michigan Health System Taubman Health Care Center has burned four vehicles.
A campus emergency alert went out at 9:40 a.m. Thursday after the fire was reported at the P2 Hospital Parking Structure, located at 1600 E Medical Center Dr., at 09:25 a.m.
U-M students and staff were urged to avoid the area, and several area intersections were blocked.
The school's Division of Public Safety and Security said the fire was extinguished later in the morning and cleanup was taking place. Traffic delays continued, however, with lanes closed on Medical Center Dr.
"People who have medical emergencies will be allowed to get through the road closure in order to reach medical attention," U-M spokeswoman Diane Brown said.
No injuries were reported.
The parking structure was closed and it was unclear when it would reopen.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
