Crews put out fire at Christ Temple Church in Pontiac
PONTIAC, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - Firefighters were at a Pontiac church after a fire broke out Friday morning.
The Waterford Regional Fire Department says crews from the Pontiac and Waterford Districts were dispatched to Christ Temple Church at 539 S. Paddock St. on reports of a structure fire.
When crews arrived at the church, they discovered heavy smoke and fire from the roof.
Firefighters quickly had the fire under control. Bloomfield Township firefighters provided coverage for the Pontiac District during the fire.
The Waterford Regional Fire Department the fire was caused by a roofing company that was completing work on the flat roof of the church.
Officials say this roofing system requires workers to use a large torch to heat the materials to make them sticky. During this process, flames from the torch came in contact with wood, causing the fire.
The Waterford Regional Fire Marshal's Division ruled the fire was an accident.
No one was injured and the building sustained minimal damage.
