Federal Government Investigates 1.2 Million Chrysler Cars For Ignition Issues
AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - Federal investigators want to know whether some Chrysler cars have a dangerous ignition switch problem.
The government is investigating 1.2 million vehicles made by Chrysler to see if a simple knee bump can push the ignition out of the run position, reports WWJ Autobeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert.
There have been 32 complaints involving mainly minivans, Jeeps and other SUVs stating that keys have been knocked out of the run position.
Dominating the news recently - General Motors has recalled millions of their cars due to ignition switch issues that have been linked to at least 13 deaths and numerous other legal issues.
GM CEO Mary Barra told Congress there are deeper issues to be examined.
"I notice key chains everywhere I go now and I just think it's something that needs to be addressed more broadly across the industry," said Barra.
Possible solutions may include more ignition switches that work on the push of a button rather than a turn of the key.
