Father, Girlfriend Charged After 3-Year-Old Boy Beaten To Death
INKSTER (WWJ) -- A father and his girlfriend have been charged in the death of a 3-year-old boy who died from blunt force trauma last week.
Aurelio Smith, 41, and Andrea Bracy, 21, appeared in court Monday and were charged with felony murder, first-degree child abuse and torture.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled Tyme Smith's death as a homicide on Friday, a day after police were called to Garden City Hospital where the boy was being treated for what were described as severe injuries on his head and all over his body.
A detective who testified said that the medical examiner saw evidence of prior abuse during the autopsy. The fatal blow to the boy perforated his liver.
A family members say that they had evidence of the prior abuse and sent pictures to child protective services, but Smith retained custody.
Bond was set at $1 million for each of the defendants.
