Woman Killed, 2 Teens Critically Injured In Utica Road Crash
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - One person is dead and several others are injured following in an accident that shut down Utica Road in Sterling Heights for several hours.
According to police, a 22-year-old woman died in the accident at around 3 p.m. Wednesday involving a minivan and a car, just west of Hayes Rd.
Police say two 14-year-old girls taken by EMS to Children's Hospital in Detroit are in critical condition. Two people in the minivan, a 59-year-old and a 14-year-old passenger in the van, both from Kimball, are in an area hospital in stable condition and are expected to recover.
Early information is that, when the lane the fatal victim's 1999 Buick Century was in was ending, she tried to speed around another car, ended up on the shoulder, lost control, crossed the center line and crashed into the 2013 Chrysler Town and Country mini van.
The investigation continues but a police report states that aggressive driving and speed are believed to be factors. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected factors at this time.
