Fast Food Workers Continue 'Fight For $15' During Protest At McDonald's

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - Three employees of a McDonald's restaurant in Detroit walked off the job Tuesday night in protest of low wages according to a statement released.

In early April, dozens of protesters burst into the McDonald's on W. McNichols and Livernois Thursday to have their voices heard, demanding raises to boost them to $15 an hour.

Organizers with the "Fight For $15″ movement pushed for a bigger increase and lobbied for a labor union.

According to the statement, the walk off the job is a lead-up to a national mobilization expected on Wednesday to address the need for a rise in the wages of workers across the nation.

Tuesday evening protesters reportedly took over the lobby and brought business to a halt inside the Detroit McDonald's.

At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Wayne State University's campus, thousands of low wage workers are expected stage a massive protest for a livable wage.

In addition to fast food workers, Wednesday's protest is expected to include workers in the retail, child care, and home healthcare and higher education fields. College students will also take part in Wednesday's rally, raising awareness about the number of college graduates who now are in low wage jobs.
