Family Members: Dearborn Man Dies, Shot In The Head During Attempted Robbery In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 24-year-old Dearborn man has died after he was shot Sunday night in what appears to be an attempted robbery in Detroit.
Family members say Hassan Deaibes was with his uncle buying parts for his motorcycle at Joy and Evergreen on the city's west side when two men tried to rob him of some cash.
The uncle reportedly slammed on the gas and drove away — but not quickly enough. Family members tell WWJ Newsradio 950 one of the attempted robbers opened fire at the car, striking Deaibes in the head.
He was taken off life support at Sinai Grace Hospital late Monday afternoon.
Family members say police found a gun at the scene and were still searching for suspects, but police were not commenting on the case as of Monday afternoon.
A cousin of Deaibes described him as an ambitious and energetic young man.
Condolences have been pouring in on a Dearborn Area Community Members Facebook page, where a post Monday evening read: "May he rest in peace and may his family get the justice they deserve."
Many commented, "Allah yerhamo," which translates to, "God have mercy on him."
Billy Oth added: "My prayers go out to him and his loved ones. He was a great human being full of joy and laughter. So sad."
