Family Escapes Burning Home In Southwest Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A family with two teenagers, a young child and a baby had a close call after their home went up in flames in southwest Detroit.
The fire broke out early Friday morning at a two-story brick home on Cecil Avenue, between McGraw Street and I-94.
Firefighters responded to the scene and quickly contained the fire. Crews saved a neighboring home that was occupied, as well as a vacant home that received minor damage.
Six people inside the home were able to escape without injury.
Robert Snyder said everyone was sound asleep -- including his 6-month-old and 15-year-old daughters, 5-year-old son and a 17-year-old family friend, when his wife Heather noticed the fire.
"My wife came and woke me up and said there was a fire and I ran out the front door. As soon as I ran out the front door the flames came in my house," Snyder told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "The only thing I saved was my daughter's diapers, one can of formula and her pack 'n play."
Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
