Faithful To Service, Fellow Officers; K-9 Cop "Maxx" Dies Of Natural Causes

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Part of a loyal team that responded to over 1,900 requests for K-9 Unit response last year, a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois named "Maxx" has passed away from natural causes.

Maxx was assigned to the Narcotics Enforcement Team and is credited with uncovering large quantities of narcotics during his tenure at the sheriff's office.

In January 2014, the sheriff's office acquired Maxx from the United States Customs and Border Protection and immediately, he became an asset to the agency read a statement from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

"Maxx was a natural at finding and uncovering dangerous narcotics. He conducted many tracks and drug searches during his time
with the Sheriff's Office." said Sheriff Bouchard. "He was an exceptional Deputy and his presence will be missed by our agency."

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit is currently comprised of 14 dogs that are specially trained in bomb detection, arson detection, narcotics, fugitive apprehension, tracking, and property recovery.
