Ex-Con Accused Of Killing Mother, Daughter To Undergo Psychiatric Evaluation
DETROIT (WWJ) - An ex-con accused of murdering a mother and her 4-year-old daughter will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Marcus Hightower, 34, made a brief appearance in court this week and was referred for a competency exam. The case will be delayed until at least June so doctors can put together a report.
Hightower is facing charges of first-degree murder, felony murder, child abuse, unlawful imprisonment and arson in connection with the deaths of Heidi Walker and her daughter Savannah.
The mother and daughter were found dead in a burning home on Detroit's east side late last month just hours after an Amber Alert was posted for Savannah.
Police say Hightower -- who was on parole for assault with intent to murder charges -- had been dating the 39-year-old Walker and was the last person seen with Savannah.
