Emergency Landing Amid Michigan Storms Damages Small Plane

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a small plane went off a runway in southwestern Michigan after the pilot made an emergency landing due to thunderstorms.

No one was injured in Monday night's landing at South Haven Area Regional Airport.

Police say the plane was heading from Kansas to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, when the pilot reported encountering strong storms with high winds. The plane was found off the end of the runway and had damage to its front end from the landing.

Police didn't say where in Kansas the flight originated. South Haven police say the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Lighting from the storms also was blamed for sparking a fire at an appliance business in nearby South Haven Township. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports no one was injured in the fire.
