Elderly Woman Faces Fines For Displaying American Flag
DAVISON, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan woman is facing fines of $25 per day as long as she continues to keep a small American flag hanging from her front door.
WNEM-TV reports that Doris Fladzinkski received a notice of the fines from management at Kearsley Creek Townhouses in Davison, northwest of Detroit.
Managers of the complex, where a three-bedroom townhome rents for $650 a month, tell the television station that restrictions are in the lease. They say allowing the flag on one door opens the figurative door to potentially offensive displays.
Fladzinkski -- so far -- is refusing to budge. She says she pays to live in the complex and that the door is part of her "property" until she steps "on the sidewalk."
