Elderly Woman Carjacked At Detroit Gas Station
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for the man who carjacked a 71-year-old woman at a gas station on the city's west side.
The incident happened just after 12 a.m. Wednesday at the Mobil gas station on Southfield and 8 Mile roads.
According to police, the woman was sitting in her vehicle -- a black 2014 Ford Fusion -- when a man opened the door, implied he had a weapon and said it was a hold-up.
The woman got out of the driver's seat and the man fled the scene in her vehicle. She was unharmed.
Southfield police later recovered the woman's vehicle just a few blocks away from the gas station, but found no signs of the suspect. The vehicle was apparently abandoned after a crash near 8 Mile Road and Avon Lane.
The suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion, 25- to 35-years-old, 5'10" tall and 210 lbs. He was wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored pants and a dark knitted hat. He is to be considered armed and dangerous.
