Elderly Detroit Man Pleads Guilty In Dismemberment Case
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 73-year-old Detroit man faces 10 years to 20 years in prison in the slaying of a woman whose dismembered body was found in his bathtub.
Defense attorney Donald Cook says Tuesday that Alphonso Jackson entered a plea Monday to all charges in the grisly case.
Jackson was charged with murder, concealing the death of an individual and tampering with evidence.
He was arrested May 3, 2013, after police were called to an east side senior citizens' apartment complex, in the 800 block of Dickerson, on a welfare check. Officers followed a trail of blood — from a sidewalk, to the lobby, to an elevator, to Jackson's apartment — where the woman's remains were found.
Cook said Jackson told the court Monday that he gave the victim money for drugs and she later died of an overdose.
Cook said his client "panicked ... and tried to get rid of the body."
Jackson remains held in a psych ward on $2 million bond. Sentencing is set for Jan. 29.
