2nd person shot at Eastern Market after Lions game dies of their injuries

2nd man dies following shooting at Eastern Market

(CBS DETROIT) — Two men were killed following a shooting at Eastern Market Sunday afternoon.

Detroit Police Chief James White said an Oak Park man in his 30s is in custody in connection with the shooting.

White said the two people put their hands up like they were going to fight again when one of them pulled a gun out and shot at least twice. A Detroit man in his 40s, who police say was involved in the fight, was killed by the gunfire. A Detroit man in his 20s was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He later died Monday from his injuries.

Police say a large fight broke out at Shed 6 around 4:30 p.m. The fight dispersed after a few minutes, but two people reconvened shortly after.

"It's a beautiful day and shouldn't have led to this, but it did and we're going to do what we do well and do the investigation and get it closed out and unfortunately, you got a family now who's going to have to deal with the loss of a loved one," White said.

Police say two guns were recovered from the area of the shooting.

Responding officers were directing traffic after the Detroit Lions game when the shooting happened. White said the man was taken into custody immediately.

"They were able to get him into custody quickly and recover two weapons from the scene and we're kind of piecing all of that together right now, but we do know we have the shooter," White said. "No one else is at risk. No one in the community. No one in this area is at risk."

An investigation is ongoing.
