Drunken Driving Blamed For Car Vs. Fuel Tanker Crash
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Oakland County authorities believe alcohol played a role in a serious injury crash involving a fuel tanker over the weekend.
It happened early Sunday morning in the area of North Perry and Parkwood in Pontiac, according to Oakland County Sheriff's deputies.
Officials say the tanker trailer — carrying 7,400 gallons of fuel was pulling out of a gas station at 1144 North Perry, just after 4 a.m. when it was hit by a car heading northbound on North Perry.
The car, a 2007 Mazda 6, was driven by a 31-year-old Pontiac woman who deputies say had to be extricated from the vehicle. She and her passenger, a 36-year-old man, were taken to McLaren Oakland hospital. The woman was in critically stable condition and the man was stable, officials said. The truck driver was not hurt.
Sheriff's officials say they believe the Mazda driver was drunk. Blood test results were pending Monday.
