Drone-Like Toy Flies Undetected Over Wall At Michigan Prison
JACKSON, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Officials say a drone-like toy flew undetected over the wall at a southern Michigan prison and was later discovered on the ground by staff.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Heli Ball flew over the wall Tuesday at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, where new state prisoners are held until they're assigned to another correctional facility, according to a Detroit Free Press report.
Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz says the toy, which is essentially a rubber ball topped with two propeller wings and has a limited range, was too small to carry contraband or a camera and didn't come into contact with inmates.
The department is investigating and reviewing video surveillance footage. The prison just outside of Jackson is nowhere near a playground or private residence.
