Drivers Wanted: The Road To Recovery Could Use You Behind The Wheel

DETROIT (WWJ) - The American Cancer Society is looking for a few good drivers.

Almost 60,000 Michigan residents will learn they have cancer this year notes WWJ health reporter Dr. Deanna Lites.

For many the diagnosis is tough enough without the added stress of worrying about how they will get to their treatments.

The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers to drive patients to and from their medical appointments.

The need is especially great in Detroit and Ann Arbor says Rachel Cook with the American Cancer Society.

"Right now we are able to only fulfill in Wayne County about 37 percent of the rides that are requested," said Cook. "And in Washtenaw, we were only able to fulfill 55-percent."
