Dramatic Dash Cam Video Released As Police Seek Driver In I-75 Hit-And-Run Crash [VIDEO]
DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver responsible for a semi truck crash along I-75 in Detroit.
Dramatic dash cam footage shows that the driver of a white Chevy sedan was heading southbound on I-75, near Milwaukee Ave., when he or she cut through the gore at the I-94 exit — hitting the side of a semi and causing it to overturn and smash into the median wall, crumbling.
MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said the driver of the Chevy did not stop at the scene.
The freeway was closed for several hours following the incident at around 10:50 a.m. Monday. The driver of the semi was shaken up, but not injured, Shaw said.
He talked to WWJ's Zahra Huber about what can be learned from this incident.
"How dangerous it is to travel in one of these large truck's blind spots. That truck driver never even saw that vehicle when it came through," Shaw said.
"The second part of it is...we need to start stopping at some of these traffic crashes that occur," he said. "There seems to be an epidemic around the Detroit area, and also just around the metropolitan area alone, of people being involved in traffic crashes and then failing to stop to make sure that everybody's OK."
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call MSP Metro Post at 248 584-5740 or Metro Dispatch at 313 237-2450.
