Dramatic Carjacking At Detroit Gas Station Caught On Tape [VIDEO]
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating a carjacking at a west side gas station that was caught on video.
The incident happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Valero gas station at the corner of Wyoming and Fenkell avenues, just south of the Lodge Freeway.
Surveillance video taken from outside the business shows the victim exiting the station and walking over to his vehicle, which was parked just outside the entrance. As the victim is about to open his car door, he suddenly drops a bag of merchandise and puts his hands in the air.
Seconds later a suspect dressed in all black runs into the camera frame with a weapon drawn and ambushes the victim, striking him at least once with what appears to be the handle of a gun. The victim, who runs to the front of the store, throws his keys on the ground before seeking refuge inside the store.
The suspect then grabs the keys, gets in the car and speeds away. Police say no shots were fired and no one was injured.
Police confirmed that the vehicle has since been recovered in Highland Park, although no arrests have been made.
A description of the suspect was not immediately released.
