DPS Foundation To Honor Detroit's 'Champions Of Education'

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Public Schools Foundation hosting its very first donor recognition program to honor champions of education.

The event takes place Friday, Oct. 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History in Detroit.

"We are honoring five companies and/or individuals that evening," said DPS Foundation President Dr. Glenda Price.

Among them: "PNC Bank, which has been our largest donor to the foundation, and our very first donor to the foundation is Bill Picard, who will also be honored ... UAW Ford, because they stepped up when there was a real need for funding for the arts and the sports programs in the city," Price said.

The event will celebrate Price's 75th birthday in addition the foundation's anniversary. "Our donors, the foundation itself, and Dr. Price are all Champions of Education," reads a message on the foundation's website.
