Downriver Woman Charged In Nephew's Drug Death

GIBRALTAR (WWJ) - A 52-year-old Downriver woman is facing serious charges in connection with the death of her 32-year-old nephew.

Belinda Guzzi-Ford, of Gibraltar, was arraigned Wednesday in 33rd District Court on charges of delivery of methadone causing death, delivery of methadone, and delivery of a Schedule 4 drug - Xanax. She was ordered held on a $225,000 cash bond ahead of a Feb. 18 probable cause conference and a Feb. 24 preliminary examination.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Guzzi-Ford delivered the drugs that caused Kevin Aaron Bryant, of Rockwood, to die.

Investigators say Guzzi-Ford visited Bryant on December 10 and delivered an unknown amount of methadone and Xanax. The next morning around 7:10, Bryant's wife -- who gave birth to the couple's first child just days earlier -- called 911 after finding him unresponsive in their home, located in the 23200 block of Huron River Drive near I-75.

Paramedics rushed to the home and attempted to revive Bryant, an assistant wrestling coach at Trenton High School and teacher at Westwood Cyber High School in Dearborn Heights, but it was too late. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:54 a.m.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled that Bryant's cause of death was methadone and Alprazolam (Xanax) intoxication.
