Did Unhappy Customer 'Drop-Kick' Birthday Cake In Kroger?
WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) - You only get one chance to make a first impression -- and one chance is apparently all an area Kroger bakery department got to make a custom cake right for a customer.
Bloomfield Township Police are looking into whether a customer "drop-kicked" a special order birthday cake on Saturday at a Kroger store in Bloomfield Township.
According to police, the unnamed woman, "was not satisfied with the decoration on the cake, so she went behind the bakery counter in an attempt to fix it herself," reports The Detroit Free Press.
"The action caused pieces of cake and frosting to be strewn about the bakery section of the store," the news release added dryly. The woman also reportedly "stepped on (the cake) several times" and shouted an expletive while yelling, 'They … ruined my 7-year-old's birthday cake!'"
She then left the store quickly, "kicking over a wet floor sign on her way out," the release said.
But in her haste she may not have released she had already given the bakery department all of her contact information and police made a beeline to her to chat.
A worker in the bakery department told WWJ that he was told the cake hit another customer's child as it made its way from counter to the unhappy woman's foot and eventually traveled some distance.
The Free Press says when police interviewed the woman, she acknowledged she was upset about the lackluster decoration, which "was not as she expected." But she rejected the notion that she "drop-kicked" the cake, and told police that "it accidentally slipped out of her hand."
What can a customer do if they are unhappy with a design on a cake?
"They don't have to buy it," said Tom in the bakery department. "Usually the cakes are a specialty order -- something must have gone wrong. If we can fix it, we do. We only had one chance with her apparently."
