Detroit's Top Brass To Play For Tigers, Cardinals

DETROIT (AP) — The Motor City's top brass have been on hand for an exhibition game between the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.

A Detroit Symphony Orchestra brass quintet played the national anthem Monday afternoon before the game at Joker Marchant Stadium, the Tigers' winter home in Lakeland, Fla.

The ensemble consists of trumpeters Hunter Eberly and Bill Lucas, trombonist Randy Hawes, tubist Dennis Nulty and Dave Everson on horn.

The group's leader is orchestra Music Director Leonard Slatkin. He's also served as director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and was a regular on opening day in that city. He's also thrown the ceremonial first pitch for the Tigers.

As for where his loyalties lie, he says "it would be inappropriate" for him to divulge that information.
