One Person Arrested In New Center Bomb Scare, Evacuation

DETROIT (WWJ) - Employees working at Detroit's New Center One building, on West Grand Boulevard, were evacuated Wednesday morning due to a bomb threat.

Detroit police said no explosive device was found, but one person was arrested in connection with the scare.

Those who were inside that building — including Henry Ford Health Systems employees and a group of children — were taken to the nearby Fisher Building.

"All I really heard was there was some type of evacuation. I grabbed my coat and I left out," Jamie Agee, who works for Henry Ford. "I was actually concerned about my patients because we have elderly patients. I was concerned about getting them out of the building. They pretty much made it out alright."

Along with medical offices, the building houses several other businesses, including a preschool.

Both directions of West Grand Boulevard were closed for the investigation, that began at around 11 a.m.  Everyone was back in the building before 2:30 p.m.

There was no information immediately available about the suspect in custody.

No injuries were reported.
