Detroit Woman Charged In Connection With Carjacking 74-Year-Old

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit woman has been charged in connection with the carjacking of senior citizen on Sunday morning.

Wayne County prosecutors have charged 47-year-old Lawanda Hampton on counts of carjacking, armed robbery and felony firearm possession.

The  victim reportedly was asked for a ride home from Hampton and it's alleged that she pointed a gun to the 74-year-old victim's head and demanded the car at some point during the car ride.

Fearing that she would be shot -- the woman told police that she gave up her car and Hampton drove away.

Hampton was arrested on Tuesday and arraigned Thursday in 36th District Court and received a $250,000 cash/surety bond.

She'll be back in court on Nov. 3.
