Detroit Woman Caught On Video In Gas Station Shooting Sentenced

DETROIT (WWJ) - A young Detroit whose image went viral after she was caught on video in a wild gas station shooting will spend a decade or more in prison.

Shamicah Burton earlier this month pleaded guilty to armed robbery and no contest to assault with intent to murder and weapons charges and was sentenced by a Wayne County Judge on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old received a 10 to 20 year sentence on the assault charge plus two years for carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm, and two to five years on additional charges in connection with incidents March 19-20 in Detroit.

In surveillance video released to the media, a heated argument is seen between Burton — dressed in a cowgirl-style get-up —  and some people in a green Pontiac Grand Prix at a Mobil gas station on Fenkell and Greenfield early in the morning.

Prosecutors alleged that Burton, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, fired several shots at a man inside the car, wounding him. After another man was able to wrestle the weapon away from her, she fled the scene, and the injured man was driven to a local hospital. A second man was hurt, police said, when he was struck by the wounded man's car.

It was a mini crime spree of sorts as Burton was charged with mugging two women walking on Fenkell Ave. the previous evening.

The security video in super sharp HD (thanks to a gas station/police partnership called Project Greenlight) made the rounds on social media — partially due to the suspect's unusual clothing — and helped police to identify and arrest Burton.

The cameras at Project Greenlight location stream video directly to Detroit police and are monitored 24 hours a day.
