Detroit The Backdrop As Filming For The New "Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice" Takes Place

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's lights, camera, action for filming of the new superhero epic "Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice" in Detroit Monday.

The film stars Ben Affleck, who is taking over as the new Batman, with Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman and Gal Gadot stars as Wonder Woman. Affleck has been spotted around town, working out and getting in shape.

At the set near downtown Detroit, Star Johnson of Clinton Township stopped to take a few pictures of the smoky bus crash scene, telling WWJ's Vickie Thomas she couldn't choose between Superman or Batman in any fair fight. "I'm not certain," she said, laughing.

There was lots of smoke near the Greyhound bus station at Sixth and Howard as filming went on during the day. Len Lozick, a 33-year Corktown resident, said "Transformers," which also shot in the area was "nothing to this degree." "This is huge, this is five times as large, so it'll be fun to see the movie to see if we can see Holy Trinity in the background," he said."

Director Zack Snyder tweeted this photo of Affleck as Batman:

Filming takes place in Detroit this summer, and the release is set for May 6, 2016.
