Detroit Reporter Apparently Shot At While Trying To Interview Crime Victim

DETROIT (WWJ) - A local reporter was just trying to interview an elderly crime victim who was tied up and robbed inside his Detroit home when the man allegedly came to the door with a gun and fired a shot at the news crew.

The shooting apparently happened Monday afternoon when WXYZ reporter Jonathan Carlson went to a home on Arndt Street. Days earlier, an 88-year-old man was inside that home when a woman knocked on his door and asked for directions. When the man opened his door, he was apparently attacked by three people who knocked him down, tied him up and robbed him at gunpoint.

As Carlson knocked on the victim's front door Monday, the man reportedly opened it with a gun in his hand. The crew said they retreated when they saw the weapon, but the man allegedly came outside and fired a shot at Carlson from about 10 feet away.

Police responded to the scene and after a brief standoff, the man surrendered and was taken into custody. Reports say the man was taken to a crisis center, although it's not clear if he'll face charges.

No one was injured in the shooting.

The three robbery suspects are still at large.
