Police Believe Body Found May Be Missing 24-Year-Old Detroit Woman
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are working to confirm whether a body found Monday on the city's west side is that of a missing 24-year-old woman.
The body was found early Monday evening on Fielding Street, in the area of 7 Mile Road and Evergreen. Police and family members were at the scene.
Assistant police chief Steve Dolunt told reporters that though authorities believe the body belongs to Globe, confirmation by the medical examiner is required.
"We've got the body of a black female, appears to be in her 20s, in the backyard of this location," Dolunt said. "At this time, it appears to be our missing [person], we can't confirm it until the medical examiner gets here. At this time, we cannot confirm the cause of death."
Earlier Monday, police said there was evidence of foul play in the disappearance of Kajavia Globe.
Globe's car was found abandoned on Chatham Street, near Telegraph Road and Fenkel, early Monday morning — three days after she went missing.
About two miles from that location, police say surveillance video shows a masked man using Globe's bank card to withdraw cash at an ATM at 7 Mile Road and Telegraph, late Friday afternoon.
"I don't understand why people think they can just take what somebody else worked hard for," said Globe's sister, Alandria Burns. "And, after you took that money out her bank account, you could've let her go!"
"Let her go! You got the money — what else do you need? You don't need her," Burns said.
Police said evidence was found in Globe's vehicle that a crime was committed, but they would not elaborate on that.
Globe hadn't been seen since she left work, in the area of McNichols and the Southfield Service Drive, at around noon on Friday.
Detroit Police Sgt. Cassandra Lewis said this was the first time Globe had ever gone missing.
"Because of the family being so adamant that this was outside of her natural behavior, we took it a little more seriously," Lewis said. "She's never done this."
Police said they were awaiting results of an autopsy to confirm the body found is Globe's.
