Detroit Police Officers Suspended For Breaking The Law
DETROIT (WWJ) - When your job is to enforce and uphold the law, it usually helps if you try not to break it. But, nearly two dozen Detroit police officers are being suspended for that very reason.
WWJ's Ron Dewey reports that the Detroit Police Department runs officer's driving records twice a year to make sure there are no outstanding issues, and a recent check uncovered outstanding warrants for the officers arrests. Department officials say the offenses are mainly parking violations in neighboring cities, including some moving violations.
A DPD official tells The Detroit News that officers can't be on duty if they have outstanding arrest warrants. Although the department could not confirm an exact number, the newspaper says as many as 23 Detroit police officers have been suspended with pay until they can take care of their legal issues.
