Detroit Police Officer Injured In Hit And Run
DETROIT (WWJ) - Slick conditions played a part in a hit-and-run accident on Detroit's west side that sent a police officer to the hospital Monday morning.
The accident happened on the westbound Davison at Oakman, just about a block from I-96. Detroit Police Sergeant Lawrence Purifoy says the officer was standing outside of his car writing a report about a previous accident when he was hit. That accident involved a truck that had sheared off a utility pole earlier in the morning. Purifoy says while the officer was outside of his vehicle, a motorist driving by hit the officer. Authorities are looking for a black GM vehicle, possibly an Impala, in connection with the hit-and-run.
"He's in stable condition ... he has injuries to his right knee and left ankle," Purifoy said. "Other than that, he's fine. He's talking," Purifoy added.
The officer -- whose identity has not been released -- is a 12-year veteran of the Detroit Police force.
Anyone who may have information on the accident is asked to contact Detroit Police.
