Detroit Police Investigate Series Of Lethal Shootings

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police are investigating five shootings that left two injured and three dead this weekend.

On the city's east side, two men -- a 23 and 25-year-old -- were shot on Friday night and into Saturday morning. The 25-year-old was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the shooting near Nashville and Strasburg just before 11 p.m. Friday.

The other man was walking out of a banquet hall on Forest Ave. just after 2 a.m. Saturday when he heard shots and suddenly felt pain. He remains in serious condition.

Two separate incidents also occurred on the west side at around the same time. A 50-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds after his car ran into a tree. He is in critical condition.

Another shooting took place at a Coney Island restaurant on W. Warren Ave. at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. The 43-year-old victim died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.

A fifth shooting took place on Saturday afternoon near Greenfield and Pembroke just after 1 p.m., according to WDIV. A 28-year-old man was killed while driving a silver BMW. Police are on the lookout for three men believed to be involved in the incident driving a green Ford pickup truck.

Police do not believe the shootings are connected, but they are investigating each incident carefully.
