Detroit Store Owner Shoots Wrong Person In Defense Of His Business

Detroit (WWJ) -- According to Detroit Police, officials are trying to sort through what happened in a deadly shooting at a store in the area of Fenkell and Meyers in Detroit on Friday afternoon.

Detroit Police Sergeant Michael Woody said that a business owner opened fire on someone who he thought was trying to rob him, but missed and instead shot another man who later died at the hospital.

Sergeant Woody said police are not sure if the victim was with the person who allegedly may have been trying to rob the store.

"The store owner believed that he was going to be robbed, drew his weapon and fired one shot, striking victim who was not the intended target," Sergeant Woody said.

Police are still investigating and the business owner is being held to determine if charges will be filed.

"The store owner is detained at this time and most likely will be held in custody until we can get through the investigation and determine whether charges will be levied or not," Sergeant Woody said.
