Detroit Man Charged In Kidnapping, Rape Of 18-Year-Old Girl
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 35-year-old Detroit man has been charged in the rape of a young woman he was supposed to drive home.
Police said the 18-year-old victim had a fight with her boyfriend the morning of July 10, left his car, and began walking in the area of Hubbell and Plymouth in Detroit.
That's when police say Jovon Boykins, Sr. offered to drop the teen off in the area of Greenfield and Plymouth — but instead took her to a vacant house in the 10600 block of Foley where he sexually assaulted her.
According to Crime Stoppers, Boykins had used claims he was "a good man" and a member of the girl's church to convince her it was OK to go with him.
After a composite sketch and security photos were released to the media, Boykins was identified and arrested on Wednesday.
He was arraigned on charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping in 36th District court Thursday afternoon. Bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety.
Boykins is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on Thursday, Aug. 4.
