Detroit Man Charged In Freeway Crash That Killed 3 After Tigers Game
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 22-year-old Detroit man has been charged in a freeway crash that killed a Grand Rapids-area man, his adult son and nephew following a Detroit Tigers game last summer.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says Michael A. Miller was arraigned Thursday afternoon on three counts of reckless driving causing death.
The charges stem from an accident that occurred around 12:30 a.m. Aug. 18, 2013 on the Lodge Freeway near Rosa Parks Boulevard, just north of downtown Detroit.
According to police, Miller was traveling a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes of M-10 when he lost control of his car and smashed into another vehicle.
Three men in that car -- 68-year-old Brian Kelly, 31-year-old Daniel Kelly and 19-year-old Keeland Johns -- were killed in the crash, while a fourth passenger was injured. All were wearing seatbelts. Miller was uninjured.
Police said the Grand Rapids men were headed home from a Detroit Tigers game when the accident happened.
Each charge against Miller carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
