Detroit Institute Of Arts Unveils Private Lounge For Nursing Mothers
DETROIT (WWJ) - Nursing moms visiting the Detroit Institute of Arts now have a new space to feed their children in private.
DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons said the museum has built a private lounge strictly for nursing mothers.
"We want the DIA to be accessible for all visitors," Salort-Pons said in a statement. "Nursing mothers will now have the option to feed their children in a comfortable, private setting. The visitor experience is very important to us, and we want to make sure everyone feels welcome."
The lockable lounge, which is located just off of the Farnsworth St. entrance to the museum, features an armchair and ottoman alongside a changing table and an electrical outlet. The entrance to the lounge is adorned with Italian artist Alceo Dossena's marble sculpture "Madonna and Child."

The DIA is open 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Tuesdays–Thursdays; 9 a.m.–10 p.m. Fridays; and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. General admission is free for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb county residents. For all others, tickets are $12.50 for adults, $8 for seniors ages 62+, $6 for ages 6–17.
