Detroit Artist Marcus Glenn Charged In Fatal Drunken Driving Crash
DETROIT (WWJ) - A prominent Detroit area artist is facing criminal charges in a fatal accident in downtown Detroit.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's office says 48-year old Marcus Glenn of Southfield has been charged with drunk driving causing death.
Bond was set at $75,000/10 percent at an arraignment in 36th District Court Thursday.
According to prosecutor's office spokesperson Maria Miller, Glenn was driving an SUV that crashed into a guardrail on Jefferson Ave. at Griswold the night of Feb. 4. A passenger in the car, 44-year-old Hatta Funches, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Authorities said Glenn's wife was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. No other details were available.
The arraignment held at 10:30 this morning before Magistrate Bari-Blake Wood. PCC scheduled for 03/03/2016 @ 8:30 a.m.; PE 03/10/2016 @ 9:00 am – both before Judge Langston; Bond $75,000/10%.
Glenn, who was born and raised in Detroit, is described as "one of the most widely collected contemporary artists," by Park West Gallery in Southfield. According to the gallery's website, he has sold art in 67 countries to thousands of clients.
Glenn previously made news when his colorful acrylic on wood mixed media piece "One Nite Outta This World" was selected as the official artwork of the 2014 Grammy Awards.
He also has work on display at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit.
Glenn will be back in court for a probabble cause conference on Thursday, March 3.
