Demonstrators Protest Ann Arbor Decision To Shoot Deer
ANN ARBOR (AP) -- A few dozen people have protested a decision by Ann Arbor leaders to hire sharpshooters to kill roaming deer in the city.
The Ann Arbor News reports Saturday that a demonstration was held Friday night outside City Hall.
Opponents say the killings are unwarranted and inhumane.
Protester Valerie Carey said "there are nonlethal methods that should be tried first" to reduce the numbers of deer.
Some residents have complained about damage to landscaping and concerns about deer-vehicle crashes.

The Ann Arbor City Council voted 8-1 in August to use guns to cull deer herds over the next four years, beginning with 100 deer this winter.
Trained shooters are to lure deer using bait piles and aim to kill each deer with one shot to the head.
