Dearborn Man Charged With Murder, Torture In Sister's Stabbing Death

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A 23-year-old Dearborn man has been charged with first degree and murder and torture in his sister's death.

Wayne County Prosecutors say Haron Elmawri strangled 30-year-old Asyh Elmawri Saturday afternoon, at a home in the 7500 Block of Bingham, and then stabbed her multiple times.

Other family members called 911 and Haron Elmawri was arrested at the scene.

He was arraigned Monday in 19th District Court where Judge Sam Salamey set bond at $1 million, no 10 percent.  As a condition of his bond, Haron Elmawri will have to wear a GPS tether if he's released.

Police have not spoken specifically about a motive for the killing as an investigation continues.

"This appears to be a domestic violence incident that escalated.  Our hearts go out to the family of the victim," Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said, in a media release.

Haron Elmawri will be back in court on Friday, Aug. 8 for a preliminary exam.
