Dearborn Heights Man Accused Of Killing Kids, Torturing Wife To Undergo Psychiatric Exam

DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A Dearborn Heights man accused of murdering his four children and torturing his wife will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

A District Court judge on Wednesday ordered the tests for Gregory Green, 49, to determine if he's competent to stand trial.

Green is charged with  four counts of first-degree murder, and one count each of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, torture, unlawful imprisonment, felonious assault, felon in possession, and felony firearm. He faces life in prison if convicted.

Green's wife, Faith Harris-Green, survived the attack. She attended Green's hearing Wednesday in a wheelchair.

Green remains jailed without bond. His case will remain on hold, likely for weeks, until the results of his exam are complete.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, it's alleged that Green called 911 around 1:15 a.m. on Wednesday and admitted to killing his entire family. When police arrived at Green's home in the 4400 block of Hipp, near Pelham and Annapolis roads, he was waiting on the porch and was immediately placed under arrest.

After the arrest, police went into the home and discovered Green's 39-year-old wife, Faith, in the basement of the home, bound with duct tape and zip ties. It is alleged that Green bound his wife, cut her face with a box cutter and shot her foot. Prosecutors say Green then shot his stepchildren, 19-year-old Chadney Allen and 17-year-old Kara Allen, in front of his wife, who was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. She was last reported in fair condition. Investigators say both teens were shot multiple times, execution style, and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Upstairs, police discovered the bodies of Green's biological children, 5-year-old Koi Green and 4-year-old Kaleigh Green, tucked into their beds. It is alleged that Green poisoned the two younger children with carbon monoxide — duct tape was observed on the muffler of a car in the garage and a plastic tube was attached to the car — and then moved their bodies back inside the home. The children were taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Police Capt. Michael Petri said the situation "seems to have stemmed from a domestic violence related incident," adding that police have never been called to the home in the past.

According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Green served 16 years in prison for second-degree murder after pleading no contest in 1991 to killing his pregnant wife. He was released from prison in 2008 on his fifth request for parole.

The Greens married in 2010, according to the Associated Press, and Faith Green recently filed for divorce in August. In her divorce filing, Faith Green cited a "breakdown in the marriage relationship." She also filed for divorce in 2013 but the case was dismissed for lack of action. A personal protection order that same year was rejected by a judge, the AP reported.
