Police Investigating After Shots Fired Into DDOT Bus; 2 Injured

HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - Police in Highland Park are investigating after two people were injured by shots fired into a Detroit city bus.

Authorities say the gunfire came from outside of the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) bus was traveling southbound on Hamilton Ave. at Oakman, near Woodward and the Davison Service Drive, at around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Marli Blackman, spokesperson for the city of Highland Park, said one bus passenger was being treated for a bullet wound, while the other — who was only grazed by a bullet — refused medical treatment. Both were men in their 50s.

Blackman said there are no suspects at this time.

"No idea; we're investigating that," she told WWJ Newsradio 950, Wednesday afternoon. "We don't know if it came from anther car, we don't know if came from someone just shooting off the street, we don't know. We don't have anybody in custody and we just don't know."

Investigators have said they do not believe the victims were intentionally targeted.

Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward. Those with information should call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
